In August of 2014, Andrade Legal attorneys responded to the call for volunteer attorneys and legal workers to represent Central American refugees arriving at the southern border and held in a remote detention facility in Artesia, New Mexico. National reports of the highly controversial move of detaining asylum seekers, particularly women and children were widespread. In this report, accompanied by a program on PBS Newshour television show, volunteer Andrade Legal attorney is quoted on one seemingly minor incident that reflected the environment in which the asylum seekers were held.
