MINIMUM WAGE

July 13, 2009 update

Effective July 24, 2009, the federal minimum wage for covered non-exempt employees will increase from $6.55 per hour to $7.25 per hour. The federal tipped minimum wage rate of $2.13 per hour will not change.

This is the final phased increase from the Fair Minimum Wage Act of 2007, which amended the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA). Where covered under the Fair Labor Standards Act and relevant state or local law, an employer must pay covered employees the higher of the federal, state, or local minimum wage.
