JOB DUTIES
Assist attorneys in case preparation and filing a variety of cases, particularly U, family based immigration and removal defense; serve as Andrade Legal community engagement liaison by interfacing with other immigrant advocates and volunteers to bring educational and legal services to Idaho’s non-citizen community and their families.
BACKGROUND
Marielena Vega joined Andrade Legal in June 2017 as a summer intern. She was offered a position as a legal assistant at Andrade Legal following her internship.
A native of Idaho, Marielena is a 2017 graduate from the University of Idaho – Moscow with a Bachelor of Science in Political Science, Bachelor of Arts in International Studies and Spanish.
As an undergraduate, Marielena was given the opportunity to serve as a two-time participant of the National Model United Nations Conference in New York, representing delegations from Indonesia and Sri Lanka; she presented research focused papers on criminal justice issues affecting women, children and the use of technology, and the rule of law to combat Transnational Organized Crime and Drug Trafficking for the delegation of Indonesia and a second paper for the delegation of Sri Lank.
Marielena has been involved in events to promote diversity, culture, and inclusion such as Shades of Black, El Color de Nuestra Tierra, and Farmworker Awareness Week. In the Spring 2017, Marielena spent a semester in Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico attending the local university and learning more about the afro-latinx culture of Puerto Rico, as well as, getting a much more personal experience on U.S. – Puerto Rico relations.
In her spare time, Marielena enjoys taking advantage of programs and trainings that help her become more informed on local, national and world issues; she enjoys reading, volunteering at her local library, spending time with her family, practicing Portuguese and further developing her skills in folkloric dancing.
